Do Your Referrals Need to Be Ready to Attend Now?
No. It doesn't matter where your friend is at in the decision-making process: from general information gathering, to requesting that materials or catalogs be mailed, to asking questions on the phone, to setting up an in-person meeting. These schools are ready to accommodate all requests.
Do Your Friends Have to Request Information for You to Get Paid?
No, but it helps. As an affiliate you would earn a fee just for having a friend visit our site. The College Information side of our Affiliate Program is set up so that you receive a fee for each first-time visitor you refer.
Pay-Outs for First-Time Visitors
Here is the formula we use to calculate your monthly earnings for referring First-Time Visitors:
1) Our affiliate program software tells us what percentage of our new site visitors come from our affiliates each month.
2) We take the total number of people who requested college information (minus any charge-backs) and multiply by the percentage sent by affiliates.
3) We take that number and multiply it by $5.00.
4) We divide that pool of money each month among our affiliates based on the percentage of first-time visitors you referred. So, if you referred 10% of the visitors, you would receive 10% of the money in the pool.
It is in everyone's best interest to encourage as many people as possible to sign up for information. The more who sign up, the larger the pool of cash being divided among the affiliates.
Sincere Interest
There is one important qualifier. We are looking for people who have a sincere interest in finding out about school. If a school contacts one of your referrals and she tells them she isn't really interested; she just signed up because a friend asked her to, then the school will return the referral, and the funds will be withdrawn from the pool. We then crosscheck to see which of our affiliates made the referral. We understand that this may happen accidentally every once in a while. But, if we recognize a pattern of problems, we reserve the right to discontinue the affiliate relationship.
Storefront Affiliate Pay-Outs
In addition to the college referrals, we also have a store on the site, where we offer products ranging from ebooks to T-shirts. We pay a 20% commission on all items purchased.
When Do You Get Paid?
We pay our affiliates on the 15th of each month. A minimum of $5.00 in commissions/college pool funds must be accumulated for a check to be issued. If you earned less than that amount, your funds will roll to the following month.
Link or Banner - Your Choice
Banners are great if you have your own site and like the idea of seeing Lance's smiling face when you go to your page. Links are the preferred choice of most of our affiliates. Some free websites frown on adding commercial banners. But, almost everybody talks about their favorite sites on their websites. We will supply you with a special coded link that you can incorporate into your page. When your friends click on www.dufusdetective.com from your site, we know you referred them, and we credit your account.
No Website Necessary
Using a coded link, you don't even need your own website to participate in this program. Just put the link that we provide in an email and tell your friends to click on www.dufusdetective.com. Encourage them to request college information if they are interested, and be sure to ask them to forward your email to all of their friends. As you know, sometimes forwards can be passed along to thousands of people. Especially if it involves something funny or something free.
